Encyclopedia of Environmental Information

Welcome to the web-based Encyclopedia of Environmental Information.  This site serves to inform and guide web users in their search for environmental data and information.

The heart of the Encyclopedia is an updated and searchable database of pertinent environmental websites.  A user can also browse through an outline form of the website listings.  Some of the websites that we have listed contain an immense amount of information and serve as a gateway to many other useful sites.  The websites listed in our database are associated with keywords, have been ranked for data and site quality, and are accompanied by a brief description.   We welcome new sites to the Encyclopedia.  If you know of one please let us know through electronic submission.

Other components of the Encyclopedia include a listing of journals specializing in Environmental Assessment, Management and Policy, a  detailed analysis of four environmental Focus Areas, and discussion and development of a Trends Indicator.

The Encyclopedia also contains several Help features such as an Encyclopedia User's Guide, an Environmental Assessment "How to Guide", and a site map.  To "start quickly", the main components of the Encyclopedia are listed in a simplified table of contents below.

Website Listings - these are websites useful in assessing the environment

Focus Areas - We have investigated a few key areas in detail.

Help/User's Guide - A step-by-step process for using this site.

Environmental Assessment "How to Guide" - Detailed steps for assessing the environment from two federal agencies.
