IWR-PLAN Getting Started

First Time Use

The first time you use IWR-PLAN after installation, it will prompt you to locate a data file. A sample data file (Bussey01.mdb) is included in the Data subdirectory within the IWRPLAN directory. Attach to this data file. The data in this file come directly from the report Bussey Lake: Demonstration Study of Incremental Analysis in Environmental Planning (IWR Report 93-R-16).

After attaching to the data file, notice the filename appears in the bottom of the IWR-PLAN window. Each time IWR-PLAN is started, it automatically attaches to the data file it was attached to the last time IWR-PLAN was used. To start a new data file or retrieve an existing data file, follow the appropriate instructions on the IWR-PLAN checklist.

IWR-PLAN Checklist

The IWR-PLAN checklist includes a ten-step process for completing a basic IWR-PLAN analysis; describing how to enter variables and solutions (with the solutions' effects and relationships), build plans, and conduct cost effectiveness and incremental cost analyses. Also included in the checklist are a list of other operating procedures and a list of IWR-PLAN's advanced analytical features. Following the checklist are instructions for completing the tasks in each step or feature.

IWR-PLAN On-Screen Help System

To get more specific information and operating instructions, use IWR-PLAN's context-sensitive on-screen help system available throughout the program. The full help documentation, organized by each IWR-PLAN screen (or in IWR-PLAN lingo, "form"), is accessible from the Main Menu's Help pull down menu. Context-sensitive help is also available on each form in IWR-PLAN by clicking on the ? in the active window's upper right corner. Upon clicking the ?, the cursor becomes a moving ?. Point the ? over the area where help is desired and click to activate the appropriate help documentation
