Manual List

Browser Check: Audio Capability

Visitors need software to listen to the audio files on this site, including the Windows® MediaPlayer® or Basic® RealPlayer® from RealNetworks®. The audio buttons in each activity will tell you in which format the recording has been made. Below is an audio file for test purposes.

Did the clip play? Did you hear the audio? You should have hear the word 'test' five times.

Many factors determine your computer's ability to play audio. In addition to having the proper plug-in, your computer's internet connection, processor speed, sound card and software configurations all play a part. If it took too long to download this very short audio clip, or if the playback was less than perfect, you may want to skip the audio components of the manual. You can, instead, elect to view transcripts (coming soon) of each audio file.

If you had problems you may want to consider the following:

  •  Do I have a player downloaded onto my system?
  •  Are my speakers plugged into the correct jack?
  •  Are they turned on?
  •  If you don't have speakers you can also use headphones.

If the audio test failed then you need to check the above issues and possibly download a player from either Microsoft or RealNetworks. If the only issue seems to be a missing media player then please select from the two listed below.

Get RealPlayer® from RealNetworks®

Download RealPlayer

Get Windows Media® Player

Once you've downloaded one of these two players onto your system just follow the installation instructions then return to this page and try the audio test again. Everything should work fine.

Now let's continue with next item on our browser check.
