Offered below are two software products that are being used by water planners across the U.S. PMCL offers these products commercially and also offers several types of training packages to support their application.

IWR-MAIN

The recently updated IWR-MAIN Water Demand Management Suite for Windows© is the culmination of a quarter century of research and experience to advance the tools available for those who plan for and manage water resources. Specifically, IWR-MAIN has been designed for:

  • Projecting municipal and industrial water demands
  • Analyzing the potential water savings from water demand management (water conservation) programs and incorporating these savings into projections of water demands
  • Analyzing the potential monetary benefits and costs of water conservation alternatives

More about IWR-MAIN can be found at www.iwrmain.com or by contacting Wlliam Y. Davis.

IWRAPS

The Installation Water Resources Analysis and Planning System, or IWRAPS©, models are specifically designed to predict seasonal water needs at military installations. IWRAPS© contains water-use coefficients developed from actual data obtained from a nationwide survey of military bases. The models are based on water use factors such as the square footage of buildings, weather, mission, and climate. IWRAPS© provides automated software support for water resources planning and management.

Military installation managers have often taken for granted the availability of adequate water supplies to meet current and future demands. However, droughts, recent water rights litigation, base realignment and closure actions, and general environmental concerns have generated an awareness of the need to better manage this critical mission resource. The Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps have responded by sponsoring the development of water planning and management tools. PMCL has developed models and performed case study applications for Army, Air Force, and Navy installations throughout the United States.
